This is Tunisia’s second medal from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, following Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi’s silver medal in taekwondo sports.
Al-Hafnawi became the youngest Arab athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in the history of the Olympic Games when he won the 3000m gold steeplechase at the Rio 2016 Games at the age of 18 years, seven months, and 22 days, breaking the record of Kenyan-born Bahraini runner Ruth Jebet, who won the 3000m gold steeplechase at the Rio 2016 Games at the age of 19 years and 8 months.
The video shows the family nervously watching the last stages of the race before El Hefnawy triumphed. The women yelled and hooted in delight when her gold-medal victory was revealed.
