Garlic: the most effective natural remedy for pneumonia, cough and ear infections – why don’t doctors prescribe it?

Written by Online Starts

For many years, the followers of traditional medicine have valued garlic for its therapeutic virtues. Thanks to its active compounds, this condiment is considered a true natural ally. Anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antifungal, garlic has more than one trick up its sleeve to bring you iron health. But did you know that this kitchen staple can relieve coughs, pneumonia and ear infections? We tell you more.

Garlic is a superfood that belongs to the alliaceae family, along with onions, shallots, chives and leeks. In a context of food abundance, our body is subjected to many pathogens that can hinder its health. As a result, many people have chosen to return to a more natural diet to preserve their bodies.

Garlic: a superfood to be consumed without moderation

Franck Senninger, a nutritionist and author of L’ail et ses bienfaits (Garlic and its benefits), has highlighted the virtues of this superfood. Garlic is rich in antioxidants that “counteract aging by capturing oxygen toxicity,” says the expert. Thus, garlic would fight against free radicals and preserve the body’s cells against premature aging. Moreover, garlic contains allicin, “a sulfur compound that is antibacterial, anti-infectious and fights viruses,” adds the doctor.

Garlic to prevent pneumonia

Pneumonia is an acute respiratory infection that affects the lungs. It can be caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi. “The germs most frequently involved are pneumococcus, then viruses (influenza, rhinovirus),” says Dr. Bervar, pulmonologist at Calmette Hospital in Lille. According to the scientific community, the antibacterial properties of garlic act effectively to fight against pneumonia of bacterial origin. In addition, the antiviral activity of garlic has been highlighted by researchers as garlic extract has been shown to relieve the common cold, an infection often caused by rhinovirus.

Garlic to fight coughs

Generally, coughs are considered a trivial ailment but can be a nuisance in everyday life. According to a scientific study, allicin, a sulfur compound found in garlic, is effective in preventing colds, which are usually accompanied by coughing.

Garlic to relieve ear infections

Ear infections, also known as otitis, occur when viruses or bacteria enter the body. Typically, an ear infection occurs as a result of a respiratory tract infection and can be more or less painful. Researchers have found that ear drops containing garlic can reduce the symptoms of an ear infection. It should be noted, however, that this treatment should not be used if the eardrum is perforated.

The garlic remedy recipe

Before preparing your garlic remedy, you will need

– 5 cloves of garlic, peeled and crushed
– 3 teaspoons of coconut oil
– 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

NB: choose organic ingredients to take care of your health.

To concoct this natural remedy, start by heating the coconut oil in a water bath. Then add the olive oil and crushed garlic cloves. Mix well until you obtain a homogeneous preparation. Let stand in a glass jar for 30 minutes, then filter before use.

Directions for use:

If you suffer from sinus pain, massage your nose with this preparation.

If you have a cough or pneumonia, massage your chest with this mixture.

In case of otitis, it is recommended to cook a few cloves of garlic to extract the juice, and then put 1 to 3 drops in the affected ear.

Consumption of garlic is not recommended for people who suffer from blood diseases, who take blood thinners and before surgery.
